Description:
The project consisted of installing secant pile walls and sheet pile walls to support the excavation and act as permanent walls for a potash railcar unloading tunnel. Driven piles were also installed to provide structural support within the ramp section. The project was constructed as part of a rail to ship transfer and storage facility for product coming from the new K+S Potash Canada Legacy Mine in Saskatchewan.


Solution:
AGRA supported the General Contractor with the construction of a concrete guide-wall to meet the stringent tolerance specified on the project. Heavy duty piling rigs were provided to drill the challenging conditions and full temporary casing was required with some use of water as a stabilizing fluid using a tremie system to construct the secant piles. Full time coordination was provided to manage daily train traffic and congested site conditions. Driven piles were tested using the PDA dynamic load test method to confirm capacity and compliance with design requirements.
