PCS Rocanville West Project

PCS Rocanville West Project
Date: 2010

General contractor AMEC c/o PCS Rocanville contracted AGRA Foundations Limited for the foundation works to the PCS Rocanville West Expansion Project, which involved the construction of a new mill, new substation, dry building, and rail load-out facility. Ground conditions on site were a mixture of gravel and sand with coarse, dense, well-graded, moist to wet cobbles and boulders.

Solution:

Due to difficult soil conditions, a hydrovac excavation of overburden and cobbles was necessary before the drive tube could be installed to form the expanded base and reinforced shaft. Expanded-base piles had previously been successfully installed on the site and were the foundation type of choice for both that reason and their high capacity.
